Whether you are worried about conquering acne, preventing wrinkles, reducing toxin absorption or avoiding skin cancer, some of the best skin care tips have nothing to do with products!
1. Drink more water! Drinking water keeps skin plump (no sagging or wrinkles!) and brings nutrients to newly forming cells. As a general rule, you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day.
2. Improve your nutrition. We are all overfed and undernourished. Remove as much processed “food,” dairy, and sugar from your diet as you can and include as many leafy greens as possible.
3. Supplement when needed. While it is always best to eat your vitamins, something is better than nothing! Make sure your diet includes an adequate supply of Vitamins C to prevent sun damage, Vitamin E to strengthen and hydrate your skin, Zinc to cleanse and detoxify, antioxidant to prevent free radicals and oxidative damage, omega-3 fatty acids to create strong skin cells, and flavonols to improve the skin’s texture and increases blood flow.
4. Detox your body – inside and out. Consuming an adequate amount of fiber and water will help your body eliminate toxins and prevents them from surfacing through your skin. Roughly 1/3 of the body’s impurities are released through the skin each day – dry brushing helps remove dead skin cells and improves blood flow, improving skin function.
5. Exercise. Exercising increases lymph flow and circulation, improves digestion and waste removal, stimulated your metabolism, and delivers oxygen and nutrients to your organs – including your skin.
6. Sun Smarts. As a nation we have become sun-phobic in an attempt to prevent wrinkles, age spots and skin cancer. But we all actually need a little sunshine to survive and thrive. On average, 30-45 minutes of unprotected sun time early or late in the day is awesome for the health of your psyche, skin, and bones. During other times of the day, make sure to protect your skin by drinking water, moisturizing, wearing protective clothing, using sunglasses, and choosing natural physical blocker sunscreen products.
7. Sleep. When we sleep, is our bodies time for renewal. During this time our body repairs and rejuvenates. Human Growth Hormone is necessary to repair cells and it is produced when we sleep. Also, sleep deprivation will trigger the release of cortisol (a stress hormone) and causes skin to age. So there really is such a thing as beauty sleep!
8. Take care of your skin externally. Your skin is one of the primary ways your body eliminates waste and purges toxins from the body. And it is constantly shedding dead skin cells. Cleanse daily with a mild, natural cleanser, remove any make-up before sleeping, clean your phone several times a week and make sure to regularly use a body brush! And most importantly, make sure the products you are using on your body are 100% safe!
